The award
The Business Action Caring Business Award recognises North Devon businesses and organisations that provide practical support to local communities by taking action.
Organisations can be commercial, not-for-profit or charities. Serving the community may be their main aim or an additional voluntary activity that they pursue purely to help others.
Activities can include (but are not limited to) social care, educational, supporting those in ill health, poverty or at social disadvantage, helping those with special needs, loss, grief or loneliness, or providing facilities or services for community activities.
An organisation’s caring role can be its main activity or else it can engage in ongoing voluntary action all year round in addition to a main commercial purpose. It can support specific needs, such as homelessness, grief or young people’s development.
We’re looking for organisations taking action and getting things done all year round.

Criteria
The judges are looking for evidence of at least one of the criteria below. You don’t have to meet all – just use them as a guide for your entry – what’s most important is for you to tell your story!
- Provides practical support to members of the community
- Commitment to helping those in need
- Caring all year round as a full-time purpose or additional voluntary activity
- Track record of continuous help
- Valued by the communities which they support
- Practical, all-year-round genuine action counts for more than one-off fundraising events
Who can enter?
The Caring Business Award Award is open to any business in or near North Devon that supports the community through everyday practical action.
Businesses can enter themselves or nominate other businesses.
Category rules for entry
Please follow the category rules below, which also include useful suggestions on how to ensure your entry showcases achievements in the best possible light.
- You can enter your own organisation or nominate another organisation for this award.
- This award is open to commercial businesses, not-for-profit organisations or charities in North Devon.
- Ensure you read the awards terms and conditions.
- Read the criteria and the questions on the form below in advance so that you understand what the judges are looking for and tailor your answers to these.
- There is no restriction on how much information you can provide in your answers, although please ensure that anything you say is relevant to this award. The questions are deliberately open to enable you to submit the best possible entry and the examples given are purely illustrative. Add any other information you feel is important to highlight success.
- Provide as much detail and evidence as possible to back up your claims, including relevant links to web sites or videos.
- Write and save your answers in a note-making or word-processing app first and copy them into the form below. This ensures you do not lose anything you have taken a long time to write.
- Attach any files, eg customer compliments or images of products, to support your entry.
