Stunning summer weather is making North Devon irresistible and Ilfracombe Summer Family Fun Fair is drawing visitors and locals alike to the town’s seafront.
The centre of attention this year is the new observation wheel offering spectacular views across the sea and town, especially at sunset.
“The wheel was purchased with Ilfracombe in mind,” says Caroline Wynn who manages publicity for the fair, which visits the town each year.
Caroline says the focus is very much on family fun and taking time to enjoy a day at the seaside with a go on the rides, an ice cream, fish and chips and a walk.
“Ilfracombe has everything and there are so many wonderful people here,” adds Caroline who is enjoying talking to all the shopkeepers and business owners. She finds the community spirit a delight and is keen that the fair supports local businesses so that everyone benefits.
As well as the observation wheel, there are children’s rides, a funhouse, an extreme ride called The Edge, a traditional Hook-a-Duck game and a Victorian carousel.
“We want to make sure everyone knows that we’re here for everybody.”
This ranges from young children entranced by the more gentle rides to care home residents – including a 100-year-old – who enjoyed a ride on the wheel to those braving the thrill of The Edge.
Ilfracombe Family Fun Fair is open daily until 31 August from 11am to 8pm with sunset rides on the observation wheel available until 10.30pm on Friday nights.
