North Devon businesses Lyn Financial Sevices, Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway, Esplanade Fish Bar, Barbrook Filling Station and Granville Gararge Lynton are sponsoring the Lyn Valley Classic, Comedy and Music Fest 2017, which will take place throughout the twin villages on 9, 10 and 11 June. The sponsors are joined by many other businesses supporting the event.
The event was initially created as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway and 25 years of Lyn Financial Services, but after the tremendous response from visitors and traders, the event is set to continue and to get bigger and better than previous years. Car clubs and tours are now requesting to attend because it is such an iconic location. With the backdrop of Foreland Point, and overlooked by Lynton and the Famous Cliff Railway, what better place for a car show?
The twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, known as The Little Switzerland of England, will not only be reeling from the sound of some fantastic cars but also great music and comedy.
Ashley Clarke, from Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway, said: “We are gearing up for a two-day extravaganza of classic cars, sports cars, comedy and a mini-music festival. Local traders are adding to the event and getting involved by putting on their own music at different venues throughout the villages.”
The weekend starts on Friday 9 June with comedy on at the Town Hall, Lynton with Dr Phil Hammond, NHS doctor, BBC broadcaster, Private Eye journalist and whistle-blowing comic.
On Saturday 10 June, the tribute band Hats Off to Led Zeppelin will be playing at the Town Hall, Lynton.
On Sunday 11 June, the Lyn Valley Classic will welcome classic cars, sports cars, motorcycles, tractors and rally cars, rolling into the villages.
James Tucker of Lyn Financial Services said: “We should have over 150 vehicles on show throughout the twin villages, which will create a fantastic spectacle for locals and visitors alike.
“This year we have a tour of spectacular Ferraris and Porsches, which will parade through the villages at different times throughout the day before parking up in the main showground in Lynmouth.
“They will be followed by Minehead Motor Club, who will be bringing a tour of 60 to 70 cars into Lynton. They will park up from Burville Street right down through Lynton and outside the Town Hall in the morning, before parading down to Lynmouth, along the sea front and onto the Manor green with the rest of the vehicles.
“The Show is being held to promote Lynton and Lynmouth and its businesses. No trade stands that would compete with local businesses are being permitted, and all the proceeds of the two main events at the Town Hall on Saturday and on the Manor on Sunday will be divided between four charities: Lyn Lions, who are helping to co-ordinate the event; Devon Air Ambulance; Tarka Radio’ and North Devon Hospice.”
